What's up with Harry Reid?
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid calls Justice Clarence Thomas a moron. On more than one occasion. And in doing so cites a case that makes it obvious he doesn't know what he's talking about. To my knowledge, there's never been an apology.
Reid calls President Bush "a loser" in front a room full of high-school students. He immediately calls Karl Rove to apologize, which sounded like it was as much a part of the script as the original remark. And then launches a reinforcing tirade during an impromptu news conference.
Reid, on the Senate floor, remarks that there's something in a judicial nominee's confidential FBI file that should disqualify him for the bench. There's no way for anyone to counter the allegation, because the information's confidential. No apology here either. In fact, he's got the comments post on the home page of his Senate web site!
What's going on with this guy? Why is he Minority Leader? If Bill Frist behaved this way he'd be run out of town.

Could this, in fact, be a picture of Harry Reid's brain? Or is the better metaphor that you need a searchlight to find it?
You know, the guy was re-elected in 1998 by 428 votes. He had an easier time in 2004, and it seems to have gone to his head. According to this Washington Times account, Reid could be expelled from the Senate for what he said yesterday. I don't think anyone would suggest that, but some sort of sanction seems in order.
UPDATE: Reid says something like this so often, you start to ignore him. I guess that's why each incident is more outlandish than the last. So when he said of Judge Janice Rogers Brown, an African-American woman on the California Supreme Court, that "She is a woman who wants to take us back to the Civil War days," it was lost in the background noise. But it should be Exhibit D.
***** The Captain starts off hearing McCarthy, but it was really just herring, red. ... Doug Petch disagrees: Not McCarthyite, just cowardly ...Michelle Malkin is going with the Dirty Harry metaphor ... Daisy Cutter and I are on the same page: "Is Harry "the President really is a Loser" Reid for real?" ... Polipundit wants to see Teddy's file ...
Dernit. With all this McCarthy talk, the headline should have been, "Have you no decency, sir?" Or at the very least this line from Godfather II: "Apology, Senator! Apology!"
